Tony Award nominee Patrick Stewart will be returning to The Great White Way this Fall in David Mamet’s A Life In The Theatre. Best known for his work on television’s Star Trek: The Next Generation, Stewart’s Broadway credits include roles in The Ride Down Mt. Morgan, A Christmas Carol and Macbeth. The latter earned him his Tony Award nomination.

A Life In The Theatre focuses on the relationship between two actors, the play’s only characters. One, Robert (to be played by Stewart), is a stage veteran whilst John is a young, promising actor. As the play goes on they are involved in a variety of productions, and gradually their relationship begins to change.

At this writing, no theatre or opening date has been announced. But you can be sure we’ll have it for you here when that information becomes available.

And this opening had some very big names in the audience, including Sinatra’s two daughters, Nancy and Tina, Donald Trump, Tommy Tune, and Frank and Kathie Lee Gifford, to name just a few.

Come Fly Away tells the story of four couples falling in and out of love at a swinging nightclub on a star-lit evening. Mel Brooks has announced that he is hard at work on a stage adaptation of his movie, Blazing Saddles. Brooks confirmed that he has already composed two songs for the musical which should be ready for prime time in the next year or so.

The 1974 film, which starred Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder and Madeline Kahn, was a parody of the Hollywood Western film genre. It garnered three Academy Award nominations and is generally considered to be one of the all-time great American comedies.

This will be the funnyman Brooks’ third trip to the Great White Way. Previously Brooks had a major hit with The Producers and, more recently, he brought us Young Frankenstein. When and if Blazing Saddles makes it way to The Big Apple, you can be sure you’ll hear about it here.

Obamas On Broadway

Sasha, Michelle & Malia Obama

The Great White Way had some VIP guests on Sunday afternoon. First Lady Michelle Obama, accompanied by her two daughters, Sasha and Malia, and her mother, Marian Robinson, attended that day’s matinee performance Memphis: A New Musical. And as they took their seats, the first family was greeted with a standing ovation from their fellow audience members.

Based on actual events, Memphis: A New Musical is the story of a young, white radio DJ named Huey Calhoun, whose love of music transcends race lines and airwaves. Felicia Farrell is a black singer, whose career is on the rise, but who can’t break out of segregated clubs. When the two collaborate, her soulful music reaches radio audiences everywhere, and the Golden Era of early rock ‘n’ roll takes flight. But as things start to heat up, whether the world is really ready for their music – or their love – is put to the test.

If you’d like to see the show that delighted Mrs. Obama and family, just click here to join us for a tour to Memphis: A New Musical.

If you’re of a certain age, you’ll remember The Addams Family television show in the mid 1960s, starring John Astin and Carolyn Jones. Now that same macabre crew has come to Broadway with Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth in the starring roles of Gomez and Morticia.

Your little girl has suddenly become a young woman, and what’s worse, has fallen deliriously in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. Yes, Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has a “normal” boyfriend, and for parents Gomez and Morticia, it’s a shocking development that turns the Addams house upside down when they are forced to host a dinner for the young man and his parents.

Previews for The Addams Family are on now at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with opening night set for April 8th. And naturally, we’ve got your tickets! To see the show with us, simply click here.

Here’s great news for Broadway fans. This morning we’ve added four new shows to ShowBusTours.com and we think there’s sure to be one that you won’t want to miss. Ok, maybe more than one!

Green Day’s American Idiot
American Idiot tells the exhilarating story of a new generation of young Americans as they struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world. With an 8 member onstage band and a cast of 19, this high-octane musical includes every song from Green Day’s acclaimed album American Idiot, plus several new songs as well.

Come Fly Away
This one-of-a-kind experience combines the seductive vocals of Frank Sinatra with the sizzling sound of a live 19-piece big band, and the visceral thrill of Tony Award winning choreographer, Twyla Tharp.

Promises, Promises
It’s Manhattan in the ’60s. And the city is back in full swing in Broadway’s first-ever revival of Promises, Promises – starring Emmy Award winner Sean Hayes (Will and Grace) and Tony® and Emmy® Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked).

Looped
Based on a real event, Looped, starring Valerie Harper (from Rhoda), takes place in the summer of 1965, when an inebriated Tallulah Bankhead stumbles into a sound studio to rerecord (or ‘loop’) one line of dialogue for her last movie – Die, Die, My Darling.

Jacob Clemente

Twelve year old Jacob Clemente is set to take on the starring role in the Broadway smash hit musical Billy Elliot. Clemente is the youngest of nine actors who have taken on the starring spot. He will rotate in the lead with Michael Dameski, Alex Ko, Liam Redhead and Dayton Tavares.

Billy Elliot is the funny, heartwarming tale of a young boy with a dream of dancing, and a feel-good celebration of his triumph against all odds.

Now mind you, this is not the first trip to Broadway for this talented pre-teen. Clemente previously played the role of a Newsboy in the Patti LuPone revival of Gypsy. What’s more, it’s not even his first trip to Billy Elliot, since he previously appeared in the show as Tall Boy.

While his first performance date in this role has yet to be announced, you can bet that all eyes will be on this talented young actor when he makes his starring debut.

The scheme takes an unexpected turn when his lover Fran becomes the mistress to one of the executives.

Written by Neil Simon, Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Promises, Promises features such timeless Bacharach/David tunes as “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again” and the title song. Watch for previews to begin on March 27th, with opening night set for April 25th at the Broadway Theatre.
